At EMR’s Houma facility in Louisiana, Depot Manager Scotty Lirette has built a career defined by steady growth, hard work, and strong team values. Over the past two decades, he has taken on new challenges, developed his skills across multiple roles, and helped shape a workplace culture focused on respect and support.
Scotty’s story with EMR began in 2004, when the company was still known by the name Southern Recycling. Fresh out of school and encouraged by a family member to apply, he joined as a laborer — unaware that he was stepping into what would become a two-decade-long journey of growth, leadership, and community.
“This is the one and only company I’ve ever worked for,” Scotty says with pride. “I realized early on that EMR truly respects and cares about its people — that’s what made me want to stay and build my future here.”
His first tasks were humble — fueling machines, cutting grass, and maintaining the yard — but Scotty met each challenge with curiosity and commitment. Before long, he was trained to operate material handlers, taking on responsibilities both on-site and off.
His transition into leadership began in 2006, when he moved into the office, learning logistics, dispatch, and scale operations — a move that would shape his understanding of the business from the inside out. That knowledge became critical when, in 2016, he stepped confidently into the role of Depot Manager.
Now leading a team of 14, Scotty has fostered a workplace where camaraderie and commitment go hand in hand.
“The most rewarding part of my job is the people I work with. We’re more than a team — we’re like a big family,” he shares. “Everyone shows up, every day, willing to give their best and help each other succeed.”
Scotty’s day-to-day responsibilities are vast — from overseeing safety and inventory control to production reporting, shipping logistics, and forecasting. It’s a demanding role, but one that he embraces with passion and purpose.
“As Depot Manager, I have to ensure the yard and office run smoothly. We’re constantly tracking material in and out, analyzing monthly reports, and making projections — it’s a lot, but I love it.”
But for Scotty, the rewards of working at EMR go beyond day-to-day operations. He takes great pride in being part of an industry that is helping to shape a more sustainable future.
“Knowing that the work we do plays a role in protecting the planet really means something to me,” he explains. “Metal recycling keeps valuable resources in use, reduces waste, and cuts down the need for raw material extraction. It’s something I believe in, and it’s rewarding to know I’m contributing to that bigger picture.”
As someone who has seen the evolution of both the company and the industry, Scotty recognizes how metal recycling and the circular economy are vital to long-term environmental sustainability.
“What we’re doing here isn’t just good business — it’s good for the environment, good for our communities, and good for future generations. That makes me proud to come to work every day.”
What makes EMR stand out for Scotty isn’t just the variety of roles he’s held, but the way the company invests in its people.
“They gave me chances to grow — to move into different roles, to learn, and to lead. That’s what helped me become a manager. And now I try to give that same encouragement to my team.”
Scotty leads by example, upholding the same values that first inspired him: respect, support, and a willingness to go the extra mile.
Looking ahead, Scotty’s commitment remains as strong as ever:
“I’m excited to keep growing with EMR. No matter what opportunities come up, I’m ready to keep learning and doing my best.”
When asked why others should consider joining EMR, his answer is simple — and sincere:
“EMR truly cares. They care about their employees, their safety, their training, and the communities they serve. That’s why I’ve stayed for over 20 years. If you’re looking for a company where you can build a real career, this is the place.”
